# Newsletter Launch 🚀

[Newsletter](https://www.reflectionchurch.life/newsletter) · Wednesday 14 October 2026

Hi Reflection family and friends,

This is our first newsletter as an officially launched church! My name is Emily Rice, and I'm the Secretary for Reflection. On a Sunday, you might see me walking around checking in on miscellaneous things, serving on a serve team, or worshipping in a seat next to you :)

These newsletters will go out weekly and are the place where you can expect to find the following:

\* Recent recaps
\* A brief reflection on the past Sunday's message, maybe with a question or two that you can sit with on your own
\* Upcoming locations/events
\* Some links to remind you of ways to get connected or resources that are available to you

Thank you for connecting with us. I pray that you have an encouraged week ahead!

### Jesus Must Always be the Foundational Influence on Your Life

Acts 4 · Pastor Chris · Sun 11 Oct

> 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
>
> Acts 4:11-12 ESV

Peter and John proclaimed the resurrection of Jesus to the people in the temple. In response to being arrested for doing so, they use their persecution as just another opportunity to declare the Good News of Jesus Christ- this time, to the very people who were responsible for Jesus' death.

As Pastor Chris shared on Sunday, this Peter is the same one who denied knowing Jesus to a servant girl not long ago. What could cause such a change- to now be so bold in this way with his life on the line? The scripture tells us: **he was filled with the Holy Spirit**.

This made me think about what didn't cause the change. He didn't go get more formally educated to improve on his communication skills or increase his feelings of confidence. He didn't find a way to reduce the threat of backlash. He didn't wait for a less intimidating audience.

This is all to say, not that these are bad things to do, but that he didn't have to do them. Sometimes, fear calls itself wisdom in order to keep us from surrender. Because the heart surrendered to the Holy Spirit might bring the truth to the place that it's most resisted. And that truth could set a lot of people free- the ones saying it, the ones hearing it, or the ones reading about it 2,000 years later.

Questions to sit with

1. Can you remember a time that the Holy Spirit empowered you to be "uncharacteristically" bold? What might happen if you walked in that in other areas of your life?
2. If you can't remember a time, that's okay. Considering what we read about the effect that being filled with the Holy Spirit has, does that spark hope in you? Why or why not?
